Valley of Fire
Nevada’s Oldest & Largest State Park

Valley of Fire is Nevada’s oldest and largest state park, dedicated in 1935. The state park derives its name from the red sandstone formations and the stark beauty of the Mojave Desert. Ancient trees and early man are represented throughout the park by areas of petrified wood and 3,000 year-old Indian petroglyphs. The park encompasses an area of approximately 35,000 acres.
Valley of Fire is located approximately 58 miles Northeast of Las Vegas just outside of Overton, NV.
Valley of Fire is open year round from dusk to dawn. Please be advised the temperatures are typically well above 100 degrees in the summer months. Bring plenty of water and dress appropriately.

Last weekend we did a couple of short hikes at Valley of Fire. Rainbow Vista Trail is a 1.1 mile lightly trafficked in and out trail that offers amazing scenic views and a lookout at the end of the trail. Rainbow Vista is a fairly easy trail that is marked well. There are different variations of this trail and some climbing, scrambling opportunities for those looking for more of a challenge.
Mouse’s Tank is a .08 mile in and out trail offers incredible rock formations and plenty of petroglyph viewing. This trail is marked well and is good for every skill level.

There are hikes for every skill level and we look forward to visiting again soon.
